Where are you from?

The urban music scene in Chile has experienced significant growth in recent years, establishing itself as one of the most vibrant and diverse in Latin America. Within this genre, subgenres such as trap, reggaeton, and rap have developed, gaining great popularity among young people. Chile has seen the emergence of artists such as Pablo Chill-E, Polimá Westcoast, Pailita, Standly, and AK4:20, who have been key in bringing Chilean trap and reggaeton to the global map. These artists have not only adopted influences from reggaeton and Latin trap, but also from local sounds such as Chilean folklore and Andean music, giving them a unique identity. In addition, many address social and political issues in their lyrics, reflecting the country's socioeconomic situation, especially during key moments such as the social outbreak of 2019, where several released protest songs that resonated among Chilean youth. Collaboration with international artists has also been key to the growth of Chilean urban music, allowing local musicians to expand their influence beyond borders. Digital platforms such as YouTube, Spotify and Instagram have played a vital role in promoting this music, allowing artists to reach their audience directly without relying on traditional media. In turn, events and festivals such as Trapstar Fest and performances at the Movistar Arena have provided important spaces for urban artists to perform live, while international festivals such as Lollapalooza Chile have increasingly included urban musicians in their lineups. In short, urban music in Chile is booming, with a new generation of artists setting the tone and bringing the Chilean sound to new international audiences.
